Spring/Summer Classes 2016

Creating Illusory Space in Tapestry
Friday, April 29 - May 2, 2016
9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Elizabeth Buckley's studio, Albuquerque, NM

Backgrounds can become more three-dimensional through the use of illusory space, transparency, or layers.  in this workshop we will explore the design principles behind creating depth in space, and how to incorporate these in tapestry design, be it representational, abstract, or somewhere in between.  Students can expect to generate several designs, fine-tune one, make a cartoon, and begin weaving.
Intermediate level.  Students need to have a working knowledge of basic tapestry techniques and come with a warped loom.  This workshop is intended for weavers of different tapestry traditions, working either from the front or the back.
Master Classes in Tapestry:  Synchronizing Technique with Design
Elizabeth Buckley's studio, Albuquerque, NM
Thursdays February 18, March 17, April 14, 2016
10:00 am - 3:30 pm

These master classes provide the opportunity for in-depth explorations. Meeting once a month, each student will have the opportunity to focus on developing independent studies in areas each wants to understand more deeply.  It could range from how shading techniques can creating rounded, 3-D forms, to creating water, or different aspects of illusory space for creating layered, dimensional backgrounds. The possibilities are endless!  Formatted to give time to weave and design at home, students can bring to each session technical issues that have come up, and participate in critiques and group feedback.  This is an opportunity for problem-solving, fine-tuning technique and design ideas, playing with different color palettes, and continuing to explore different aspects of the tapestry art form.
Intermediate level.  Students need to have a portable loom for use in class and to weave on at home in between classes.
