Landscape Drawing in Santa Fe

Thursdays, June 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2014
9:30 - 11:30 am
Meeting in NE Santa Fe off of Bishop's Lodge Road

Building on the Drawing as Meditation sessions, this class will focus on landscape and the use of colored pencil.  We will explore what fascinates us in our environment, be it a cluster of piƱon, aspen, cacti, or a distant vista.  We will play with different approaches to landscape, how to describe its essence through quality of line, contrast of light and shadow, texture, and composition.  When it is not windy, we will spend time outside to draw en plein air. Emphasis will continue to be on sharpening the eye to see, and how the hand with pencil can articulate our connection with what we observe.

Teaching Fee:  $145.00 (tax included)
Materials Fee:  $26.75 (tax included), for cold press papers, handouts, etc.
Instructor Gas:  $20.00

Deposit:  $50.00 non-refundable ASAP
Balance Due first class, June 5, 2014:  $141.75

Supplies you need to bring:
--sketchbook-- An 8" x 10" or 9" x 12" would be a good size.  The paper needs to be plain, with no lines, 65 – 85 pound weight, textured. (good brands are:  Strathmore, Canson, etc.) A spiral binding also is good. This will be your own sketch journal for the time we meet together.
--colored pencils with a soft lead.  Watercolor pencils are nice, but not necessary.
--hand-held pencil sharpener
--erasers:  (kneaded, white polymer)
--rubbing alcohol and Q-tips, or colored pencil extender
